MY PARADISE

Tell me, because I think it matters.
Who will rise, and look into the eyes of something greedy?
Tell me, because I’ve seen it splattered-
I love my planet, but some laws that span it kill the needy.
I look around, see a lot of people rising up-
The wool’s been pulled down over all our eyes.
The moon around the sun, the sun around the skies,
She’ll be worse before she’s better, my paradise.

Help me, because I think it’s crazy.
Who are they to have the final say? There goes a mountain…
Help me, it’s quite amazing!
Yesterday they cleared the farms away, to let a whole new crowd in.
I look around, see a lot of people rising up.
The wool’s been pulled down over all our eyes.
The moon around the sun, the sun around the stars,
She’ll be worse before she’s better, my paradise.

I know I probably simplify it all,
but, the power structure seems like seven hundred stories tall.
Still, I know that there’s a common unity.
No one takes that from you or from me. No!

FAR FROM THE SACRED

Our Jungle paths now concrete, our business ones & zeros in the air,
I hear the steady roar of traffic, so many people rushing here to there.
The kids are dazed by the world in their computers, promising them everything.
The village drum replaced by sirens, everywhere they sing.

Don’t hear the wind, the birds, the crickets, we’re waiting for our ring tones.
People jabber as they walk all alone. I’m not knocking Wi-Fi or cell phones.
The rule of the street, if you travel by feet, don’t look any one in the eye.
But on one can steal the love that you feel, or the wisdom we carry inside.

Can’t get too far from the sacred, when we’re lost in electrical land.
Walking in the fire naked, like swimming in quicksand.
So far from the sacred, yet so close at the same time.
Look at all the paths we’ve taken for just a taste of the sublime.

The pace picks up, and away we go, gotta do all the more in a day.
In spite of all the modern progress, would we know it if we’ve lost our way?
Told what to do, what to wear, how to live, and even what we should feel…
No wonder we’re losing touch with ourselves,
with this earth, with silence, and what is real….

Can’t get too far from the sacred, when we’re lost in electrical land.
Walking in the fire naked, like swimming in quicksand.
So far from the sacred, yet so close at the same time.
Don’t want to be trading love for hatred, like trading dollars on the dime.

For  the love of something simple, the search for something pure-
Century after century, there will be that something sacred for sure.

So far from the sacred, can’t get too far from the sacred, we’re more than part of the sacred…

EASY MONEY

Easy money, that’s the way some people want to go.
If it hurts somebody, you can bet that they don’t want to know.
See what they’ve been dumping, thinking no one needs the ocean floor.
Yeah, they’ll keep on dumping, until somebody knocks upside their door.

This is sheer madness, and it’s eating us alive.
You cannot cut the limb that holds you.
How long we gonna let them keep on feeding us all the jive?
You cannot wait ‘till nature scolds you. She just remolds you.

Easy money, that’s the way some people want to do.
Ain’t it funny, how their profit victimizes you?
Explanations, to make me think what’s wrong, is somehow right.
All my patience is gone, and now I know it’s time to fight.

BIOMIMICRY

If we stepped into the future, say a couple hundred years,
We’d say if we had known what they now know, we could have saved a lot of tears.
But, there’s a lot of solutions, oh yeah, right in front of our eyes,
to fix a lot of the pollution, to fix the hole in our skies.

Biomimicry – Well, the answers are here in the land and the sea.
Biomimicry – The potential is real, and the clues are free! Biomimicry.

Well there are so many good minds, not wasted on war,
Checking out the world around us, to see what nature has in store.
Might be the web of the spider, or the sticky gecko feet,
Or the mushrooms and the algae, growing right down the street.

Biomimicry – Well, the answers are here in the land and the sea.
Biomimicry – The potential is real, and the clues are free! Biomimicry.

If we could open our eyes and our minds, everything’s here that we need.
Put an end to that crazy notion – We don’t need to find a new planet to succeed.

Well things get way out of balance when profit is God.
Ancient forests and their creatures gone to the chainsaw and a job.
With just a fraction of the money, spent on defense and war,
we could harvest the miracles, and sew the tears that we tore.
Biomimicry – Well, the answers are here in the land and the sea.
Biomimicry –The potential is unreal, and the clues are free!
Biomimicry….

GET RID OF IT

I really think that it’s a crime against the people-
A toxic industry, that’s giving us its evil.
It isn’t pretty, but the story’s really got to be told.
I know the EPA is just a minor stickle for all the pesticides & chemicals that trickle
to the Earth , to the water, to my body each day.
And even if the money’s fine, you’re making poison, and people die.
You buy off all the laws that barely keep you in line.
Is this what you’ve got to give?  To the world where we must live?
What on earth can you be thinking?  In chemical chaos we are sinking!

Get rid of it, you crazy makers! make something else for the movers & the shakers.
It’s turned out to be a world class heartbreaker now.
Get rid of it if you don’t mind. Don’t need any more Methyl Bromide!
You got you profits, and I’ve got an axe to grind.

I’ll keep on holding on to the reason that I’m here-
I’ll take a stand against the things that make me live in fear.
Wrong or right dark or light, heaven send me a clue. And one for you.
God help us all!

Get rid of it……….
And even if the money’s why, you’re making poison, and people die.
You buy off all the laws that dare to keep you in line.
Is THIS what you’ve got to give? To the world where we must live?
What on Earth can you be thinking? In chemical chaos we are sinking!

RETROGRADE WORLD

There must be a reason why we’ve lasted this long.
With so much potential, why is there so much wrong?
I’ve seen a whole lotta weapons in the name of the dove,
And people working harder and longer….
so little time to make love.

But I’m still running free tonight-
Got a heart, but my mind says it’s time to fight.
And you’re still running free tonight-
We’ve got to set our sights a little higher,
The darkest lies before dawn.
If I’m going to have to live and die here,
I won’t be played like a pawn …in a retrograde world.

I give you my friendship, and I give you my hand,
And I know we’ll find some new ways to heal a sick land.
Just want to be happy, and see our love unfurl,
But I find myself living in a retrograde world

Where, where is the future I saw, so simple and clean?
How did it ever get this way? Can we blame the machines?
And who ever thought that we could make the mess we make?
Everybody’s going faster and faster…is it just a mistake?

KINDRED SPIRIT

Well, do you think there’s a cure, for the things we endure,
that weigh us down, and hold us back in our flight?
And isn’t it strange, all the things we arrange,
that keep us from having second sight?
Once I was told that you’ve got to be bold,
‘cause you never catch up in this game.
But when the chips are down, and you feel like you could drown,
with all your hopes running down the drain, well, looky right here.

It’s the kindred spirit, shining away through the dark.
We don’t have to fear it. It’s been there right from the start.
The kindred spirit- Just because we’re here and we’re alive.
If we can stay near it, it just might be what we need to survive.

Well maybe I’m a fool, and it’s totally uncool,
But, I just can’t help feeling this way.
I’ve I seen all the forces that can change my courses,
no matter what I do or say.
But again and again, in those moments just when
it all becomes crystal clear,
beyond a shadow of doubt, we can find our way out
through the snares of the greed and the fear, with what we’ve got here….

The kindred spirit, shining away in my heart-
I don’t have to fear it. It’s a friend that will never part.
Yeah, my kindred spirit, just because I’m here and I’m alive-
If I can stay near it, it just might be what I need to survive.

There’s a time to play your card. The joker has made his call,
but, you know you’ve got something much, much better anyway.
Sometimes it’s hard to have any faith at all,
but, we’ve still got our chance to seize the day.

Yeah the kindred spirit, singing away in our hearts-
It’s time for us to hear it.  It’s time for it to play its part.
Yeah, the kindred spirit, just because we’re here, and we’re alive-
If we could only hear it, it just might be what we need to thrive.

The kindred spirit-  Talkin’ about the kindred spirit
Oh, the kindred spirit…

WHERE THERE’S A WILL

See, all the centuries come and gone, and all the mighty deeds that are done.
We have sewn our history, as we spin around our sun.
Civilizations, progress and pride,
achievement and conquest, so much we have tried.
The fate of billions now seems so unsure-
Are we waiting for science to come up with the cures?
If we cut loose the drag- lines right now,
and get out of this tailspin somehow…
Everything we need is here, and so much more.

Where there’s a will, in the midst of the fray,
where there’s a will, that burns night and day,
where there’s a will,  there will surely be a way.

They crossed the great oceans, charted the stars.
Now there are close-ups of Saturn and Mars.
Invented propellers to replace the oars,
Still making new weapons, to fight new wars.
Built bridges and pyramids, dams and towers.
Split atoms in half, and now solar power!
Gandhi, the man, learned, from sitting in silence,
how to free his nation, without using violence.
If we cut loose the drag- lines right now,
And get out of this tailspin somehow…
Everything we need is here, and so much more.

Where there’s a will, a bit of common good,
and our potential, finally understood.
Where there’s a will, there will surely be a way.

On this miracle of green and blue,
Well here we are… now what do we do?
We can’t let it slip away knowing what we knew.

Where there’s a will, in the midst of the fray,
where there’s a will,  that burns night and day,
where there’s a will,  there will surely be a way.
More than the will, just to stay alive,
For there’s a thrill, when you truly thrive.
Where there’s a will, we will surely find a way.
Where there’s a will…

INSIDE INFORMATION

Information, flooding in my TV,
the morning paper, books & movies and billboards that I see.
And all the good people talking, gesturing, telling their side of the story-
Mostly folks just want to get by, they aren’t thinking about any glory.
Signposts and fliers and truckloads of all that junk-mail too,
and all kinds of crazy forms to fill out, for just about anything I want to do.
Accountants and lawyers and real estate brokers, I’m supposed to look at that deed.
It’s OK, they tell me. It’ll just take a minute. This time they won’t make me bleed!

Information, information

Schools, churches and Egyptian tombs, sacred manuscripts in underground rooms,
Ancient carvings, crop circles and concentricity,
and courtesy calls and a whole lotta beeps that someone’s looking for me.
Along comes the internet, and blew the lid right off the dome.
Why, you can find out just about anything. Don’t even have to leave your home.
Maps, compasses, Google, Safari, and good ol’ GPS’s…
If you’re driving somewhere new, they’re a whole lot better than just guesses.
The kids have pretty much mastered all this electronic media,
and when they want to look up a word, they just taps the keys for Wikipedia.
You’re not always in control of what captures your attention,
and there are a lot of subliminal messages out there that I forgot to mention.
Is the real road still the one that’s running solid under my feet?
Or is the best place to live on “Know It All” street?

Sometimes I’ve got to ask myself, ‘what do I really need to know?’
It’s my life, it’s my time, and sometime I’ll have to go.
The wise say I’ll find some real answers if I check out what’s inside.
I’ve got a feeling that keeps telling me that that’s just where I’ll find….
Information, information.

In my car, there’s a driver’s handbook full of laws and regulations.
I keep it with the owner’s manual of instructions and installations.
I’m comin’ into the south side of town to see about a guitar gig.
Find out if that MP3 I sent is in sync with what the club boss digs.
Comin’ in on the causeway, the guy behind me kinda kamikaze,
big LCD screen up ahead flickering, flashes,  impossible not to watch.
Causes some bashes…someone’s insurance blotch!
Oh yeah, and there’s the bank, displaying the time and the temperature,
And the ballgame score, and the stock market’s latest turn.
My cell phone rings, and I don’t dare answer it, don’t look down to see who it is.
Kamikaze still behind me tailgating, flipping me, honking and flooring it,
shouting, and swerving and freaking me out.
Now I’ll have to go through all the menus and memory and missed calls,
and maybe I’ll know,  and maybe it won’t matter at all.
Information.  Information, information, inside information.

SOME WAY TO GIVE

If there ever was a time to put our minds together,
I have no doubt that time is now.
When industry rapes the Earth, and business deals change the weather,
there’s got to be a better way, somehow.
Yeah there’s got to be a better way, somehow.

It’s easy to feel, so small, so insignificant
when you’re only one of billions who live.
But for all that we take from this Earth, so magnificent,
There will always be some way to give.
There will always be some way to give.

Oh, changing my ways, I never want to,
And now there’s so little time to choose
Oh, we never know how many days we’ve got left here,
and every day, another day to choose.

Not long ago, a little girl came up to me,
and would I listen to her seashell?
Well, first I heard the sea, and then I heard the angels crying,
trying to free one more from the spell,
trying to free one more from the spell.

Oh, changing my ways, I never want to,
And now there’s so little time to lose.
Oh, I never know how many days I’ve got left here,
and every day, another day to choose.
Oh, changing our ways, we never want to,
and now there’s so little time to lose.
Oh, we never know how many days we’ve got left here,
and, every day, another day to choose.
